Oh Hey... here I am. Look at that stash behind me... Shelves packed with gorgeous Yarn in all shades and tones. Makes me happy and I get so inspired to start making and crafting and putting those colours together. They are amazing colours alone, but when you get them together in a project... they elevate. They SING!!
But - I don't Crochet and I don't knit.
I have never even learned or tried. But yes, I have wanted to.
Well, that may not be strictly true... I had a few years on and off where I tried over and over and over, to learn to knit.
Two things to know... FIRST my tools were poor. I was gifted a Children's Knitting set and that really threw me into the desperation to want to make. The needles were bendy and the yarn was tough and tight. I think beginner kits need to give you better tools or you it's even harder to start!
Having said that, I did try again and again over the years, with better tools. So Let's not write off my attempts as simply "cheap tools".
No, the real reason I don't knit, or even Crochet, is because I am overtly Yang. I have alot of creative energy and verrrrry little patience for a project. I lack a bit of Yin and could, quite probably, benefit from slow and mindful yarn practice (amongst other Yin pursuits) but I have a desperate need to "seek and destroy".
I have 2 doggies... a very old and calm and thoughtful Scottie Dog called MrBaggins. I love him so much. But we are strangers. Two opposites in a "whole" of Dog/Human co-existence.
I am much more my 4 year old Staffy. Uber excited. Worryingly territorial. Suspicious of the rest of Mammal Kind. Have a new toy and KILL within the first hour... or mess with it psychologically for weeks then kill it when its least suspecting. Bark first, sorry later.
Yeahhhhh - I'm a bit more that.
This is why I LOVE PomPom Making. I talk about it in my Blog.... (see previous posts) about how relaxing it is but also quick and immediate and satisfyingly sudden from YARN to POM in minutes. I love that. I also love Tassels and Beads and Felt for those same Yang / Staffy reasons.
I love looking at Yarn projects that are utterly beyond me and, what Other talented people can do with Yarn, is a constant source of delight and inspiration....

In terms of YARN.... I know, its an Americanism and we, in the UK, tend to call it "wool" - but hear me out... Wool comes from an animal. A sheep or Alpaca or the such like... But not all "Yarn" is made from "wool" - are you with me? Those of you who still call it wool. I know, it irks you to see it as "yarn" but Yarn can be made from other material sources... not all wool, is WOOL.
On that note... let me link you over to LOVE CRAFTS where they have some great free patterns - including this awesome caterpillar by AMANDA BERRY
